Local programme helped community sports grow

A new programme in Gauteng helped local sports clubs by giving them important equipment. This helped young athletes grow in sports and in their personal lives.
What was the problem?
Local sports clubs often didn't have enough resources, which made it hard for them to give good training and growth chances to young sportspeople. This lack of equipment and support affected the clubs' ability to grow talent and keep children engaged in positive activities.
How did they solve it?
The 10Bet company, through its Gear-Up Ikasi programme, solved this problem by giving sports kits to clubs that needed them. Recently, they provided football and netball kits to the Ivory Development Academy in Orlando East. This programme aimed to equip local sports clubs with essential gear, enabling them to offer better training and playing conditions.
So how did they do it?
- 10Bet worked with sports clubs all over Gauteng.
- Clubs could ask for kits by sending a video and reason on 10Bet's Facebook page.
- Winners were picked by chance each month, making sure resources were shared fairly.
Mbongeni Zondo, the chairperson and coach of Ivory Development Academy, talked about the challenges of working with children from different backgrounds. He emphasized the importance of sports in providing structure and opportunities for personal growth. Zondo dreamed of his soccer team competing internationally and producing professional players.
Silindile Khumbane, a netball player at the academy, shared how being part of the team helped her life, keeping her active and away from bad influences.
Andile Ncube from SABC Sports and 10Bet thanked the community for their support and recognized the role of parents in the academy's success.

Get your community involved
Is there a community-driven group or caring business in your area? A dedicated group of committed people can effectively solve local problems.
Think about starting or joining community groups like a street WhatsApp group, residents' association, or community policing forum (CPF) to get help and to stay informed and involved in local issues.
Know your rights – how local government works
It’s important to understand how your local government works so that you can work with them to support what they are doing while your community continues to keep them accountable and deliver services on time. Remember you have a constitutional right to many of the services provided by local government, as well as to accountability and transparency, wherever you live and regardless of how much you earn. It is also where money collected from taxes and rates goes.
