The Amanzimtoti Community Policing Forum (ACPF) took a big step in fighting crime by getting a new car from the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government.
What was the problem?
The ACPF was busy with community safety projects and attending many meetings and events in Amanzimtoti. But they used private cars and had few police resources, which slowed them down.
How did they solve it?
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government helped by giving the ACPF a car. This car was part of a bigger government plan to give 85 cars worth R30 million to community policing forums in the area. The new car helped the ACPF move around and work better so they could respond to crime faster and support community safety.
The ACPF chairperson, Merlene Matthew, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its importance in promoting safety and security in the community. The car was important in speeding up crime fighting and supporting the hard work of ACPF members.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube said the government was committed to helping local crime-fighting projects and working together to stop crime. By giving community groups important resources, the government wanted to strengthen local solutions and community actions.

Get your community involved
Is there a community-driven group or caring business in your area? A dedicated group of committed people can effectively solve local problems.
Think about starting or joining community groups like a street WhatsApp group, residents' association, or community policing forum (CPF) to get help and to stay informed and involved in local issues.
Know your rights – how local government works
It’s important to understand how your local government works so that you can work with them to support what they are doing while your community continues to keep them accountable and deliver services on time. Remember you have a constitutional right to many of the services provided by local government, as well as to accountability and transparency, wherever you live and regardless of how much you earn. It is also where money collected from taxes and rates goes.
